Bums seem to be all anyone talks about these days, and whatever your opinion on Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj’s controversial images this year, everyone is now pining after a toned behind.

While squats are what self-appointed fitness experts on twitter and Khloe Kardashian recommend, Soap & Glory have devised a way to tone your behind and thighs without breaking a sweat. But does it really work?

The Soap & Glory brand is one of my favourites, mainly because of their retro packaging and chatty labels, that is why I attended their press day in May this year at Gail’s Kitchen in London where they launched this product. The Sit Tight Intense XS describes itself as a “special super strength body firming serum.” Hmm. Let’s hear more about that;

“Formulated for figure-conscious desk jockeys who spend most days balanced on their bottoms,” (see what I mean about their chatty labels?) “This multi-action body firming serum contains our exclusive FIRMIGEN™ CAFFEINE COMPLEX; ginseng DETOXYBOOST™ TECHNOLOGY; PRESSOCAPSULAR-FIRM PLUS™ SYSTEM with microspheres that release caffeine when you sit on them and PUFFDRAIN 82™ – a special combination of peptides that –when massaged- can help to stimulate circulation and visually smooth out back of the leg bumps.”

Now that’s a lot of trademarked words (Puffdrain82… seriously?!) Let’s see how the product fared against my 5 criteria: Smell, Effectiveness, Convenience, Ingredients and that secret ‘R Factor’.

Smell

This product doesn’t really smell of anything delightful or offensive, it just has a light pepperminty smell.

Effectiveness

The difficult thing with these ‘wonder’ products is that they are notoriously difficult to test. All I can say is that after you’ve rolled it on,  it seriously tingles. The mistake I made was rolling it on liberally, thinking it wasn’t working because I couldn’t feel anything, until I got a serious burning sensation a few minutes later. Did my derrière feel and look tighter after that burn? Yes, yes it did.

Convenience

The product comes in a sun lotion-sized bottle with metal balls at one end so the product rolls across your body (remember to turn the cap to ‘open’ otherwise you’ll be squeezing and rolling with no joy.)

The inconvenient thing about it is the price which is £16.50/125ml. Squats are way cheaper but if you’ve tried lots of different things, this bottle will last you a very long time. At the time of writing the product is sold-out online but can be bought at Boots if they have it in stock (you can call up and check in advance) and direct from Soap & Glory’s website.

Ingredients

Even after reading the ingredients list several times I have no clue what on earth is up inside this product. I mean, do you know what Methacrylate/Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer is? This is definitely not the most organic or natural product, but it does contain extracts of sweet orange peel essential oil.

The R Factor

R stands for recommend, of course! I haven’t actually recommended this product to anyone I know yet, probably because it’s quite a unique product and I wouldn’t want to offend anyone by suggesting they need it. But if I have some extra time to get ready I always use it for that extra ‘lift’.
