Impartial review: Curls Unleashed Shea Butter and Honey Curl Defining Creme

The decision to give my hair a break from heat was not an easy one.

It seems like every time I’m wearing my hair curly I see girls with luscious straight locks all over Instagram, on the tube and on TV. As soon as I wear it straight, nothing but the cutest curly hair pictures pop up on Pinterest.

When I wear my hair straight it’s quicker to get ready in the mornings and I don’t have to plan hairstyles based on the weather forecast or carry hair products around with me. (OK I usually do this anyway, I can’t lie to y’all.)

So, when I decided to have my hair curly after months of straightening it, I went to Boots in search of a product to help make the job easier.

Smell

I’m a big Pina Colada fan, so to me Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Creme smelled like a particularly creamy mix of coconut, rum and pineapple juice. But in actual fact it’s made of a blend of Shea butter and honey.

Effectiveness

“OK Phoebe, enough about the smell and your hair envy – does it work or nah?” The short answer is yes! This product says it moisturises, defines and elongates natural hair, and that’s what it did.

My hair didn’t feel dry or crunchy at all while using it, my curls were defined and I didn’t see as much shrinkage as I have done with some products. I had just had a haircut when I started using it as so was a little conscious of how short my hair would be curly, but this product helped stretch my natural curls.

Ingredients

The tub clearly states the product is sulphate and parabens free which is great. This curl defining creme is full of coconut oil, Shea butter, soybean oil and sweet almond oil.

Convenience

Inspired by a wash and go curly hair tutorial by Lana Summer, I applied the curl defining creme to soaking wet hair section by section, making sure I had every strand covered by running my wide tooth comb through my hair.
The big tub makes it so easy to scoop up how much you need – I still don’t know why they sell some curl puddings in bottles, you never ever get that last drop out *side eye*.

You can buy Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Creme from Boots stores in the UK or online.

The R Factor

The next time someone asks me for a curly hair product recommendation or what I use in my hair, I’ll be telling them to find somewhere that stocks Curls Unleashed (or just send them the link to this post, either or.)

Are there any other Curls Unleashed products I should try? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter @PhoebeParke
