Here’s why your friends don’t support your work

Friend (noun)

A person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection, typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations.

Ahh friends, those awesome people who are practically family members, except you got to choose them yourself.

They are the ones you run to first when you have good news, the ones you want around you when you’re celebrating, and the ones you feel comfortable crying in front of.

Why helping the competition won’t kill you

I saw a quote recently on a competitor’s website, which said “There are two rules for success… 1. Never reveal everything you know.”

I wasn’t entirely sure if I agreed with it, so I asked my Twitter followers what they thought.

Interestingly, the men who replied said they agreed with the statement, and the women said they didn’t agree.

Just a coincidence? I can’t be certain.

Here’s why I don’t think helping other people will hurt you.

5 ways to radiate positivity daily

1. Perfect your morning routine.

When do you feel better; when you’ve woken up 20 minutes before you need to leave the house, done your make-up on the tube and arrived at the office starving with minutes to spare.

Or when you’ve woken up an hour early, contoured your face at home and stopped for breakfast at your favourite cafe, before swanning into work half an hour before you need to be there?

How to become the DJ Khaled of your industry

If you don’t know who DJ Khaled is, chances are you don’t listen to commercial Hip Hop, don’t have snapchat and don’t have a subscription to Source magazine.

But in 2016 the producer, DJ and music label executive has managed to become the King of snapchat, shamelessly promoting his appearances, apparel and music.

This year alone DJ Khaled has signed a management-only deal with Jay Z’s company, Roc Nation, announced his ninth studio album and released a single featuring Drake.

5 lies the world is telling you about success

1. That’s its all about you.

When a sportsperson wins an award, there’s only one space on that plinth. But in reality many different people have worked very hard to get them to that winning position; coaches, nutritionists, sponsors, family, friends, supporters, equipment manufactures and many others.

Success is all about collaboration, that’s why film credits are so long and acceptance speeches can drag on forever.

Why it’s OK not to be yourself sometimes

If I had copyrighted the phrase ‘be yourself’ back in the 90s I would be making some serious coin.

How many people have you heard say they are on a journey to ‘find themselves’? But what about if you want to take a break from yourself, and be someone else for a while?

Anyone who knows me personally will know that I’ve tried over the years to blend in (as a tall girl with curly hair and glasses, that’s quite hard to do.)

BUT once I decided to stop playing small and hiding behind others, this whole confidence thing just kind of happened.

9 things all journalists do

1. Drink coffee like it’s water.

Something about those beans unleashes all a journalist’s creativity when consumed. The hotter the better, and journos love finding a good independent coffee shop to interview a source or have a meeting in.

2. Get places really really early.

The fear of missing a story is so great that when a journalist says they’ll meet you at 7pm, they’ll be there at 6:45.

How I implemented the 10 habits of a powerful woman

How much attention do you pay to your whatsapp group chats?

Every now and again, among the memes and screenshots, something powerful is shared (depending on who your friends are…)

In this case it was a video from R C Blakes entitled; The 10 habits of a powerful woman.

In the video Blakes explains that he believes it is his calling to restore the queens back to their thrones, and so he developed this teaching, and recorded two separate periscope sessions on the subject which he later uploaded to YouTube.

First, here’s the definition of a powerful woman:
