1. That’s its all about you. 

When a sportsperson wins an award, there’s only one space on that plinth. But in reality many different people have worked very hard to get them to that winning position; coaches, nutritionists, sponsors, family, friends, supporters, equipment manufactures and many others.

Success is all about collaboration, that’s why film credits are so long and acceptance speeches can drag on forever.

 

2. That it’s the result of late-night hustling.

It’s OK to go to bed at 11pm. If you study the habits of people who are at the top of their game, you’ll notice that they actually have very strict routines. They know that to get the most work done they need to not only maximize their working hours, but make the most of them by being alert and well-rested.

 

3. That it shows off.

Have you ever seen someone really successful in person? They don’t have to introduce themselves or tell you how hard they are hustling, and they usually wear very simple clothes – just think of Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg.

 

4. That it’s easy once you get to the top. 

All you have to do is work really hard, become successful and then relax, right? Wrong.

Actually the opposite is true. It’s much harder to maintain the top spot once you’re there and all your competitors are snapping at your heels.

5. That it’s all about talent.

The most successful people in the world are not the most talented. There are some very mediocre singers (I won’t name any names…) that are successful.

This is down to consistency – people will forgive your dodgy vocals if you look good, you’re marketed well and you’re consistently performing and releasing new music.
